Clifton accepts both boy and girl boarders from Grade 1 (age 6). We offer a wide range of boarding options, from full boarding to weekly and temporary boarding for day scholars. Clifton is one of the few remaining independent preparatory schools in KwaZulu-Natal that offers full boarding to young children, with numerous boarders coming from Southern African countries. Our focus is on creating a happy and caring "home away from home" where the children develop excellent inter-personal skills and awareness of others, along with greater independence in preparation for high school.

Clifton Junior Primary opened in 1997. The Art and Woodwork Centre was redesigned to accommodate three classes and a Reading Room. Our number of pupils has grown steadily each year. A Grade R was introduced in 2001, and Grade RR in 2005.
Academic classes from Grade 1 - Grade 3 are deliberately small at 20 pupils or less which promotes an intimate teacher/child relationship.

“Clifton's Riding School is based on 30 hectares of land on our beautiful campus in Nottingham Road. The Riding School has a grass show jumping arena, a sand dressage arena (70 x 30m) and a cross-country course which includes a water complex. In addition, the children are able to go on scenic outrides in the pine plantations to the west of the school and on the adjacent farmlands.
The Eco-Schools Programme was launched in South Africa in 2003. This pilot programme is supported by WWF-SA and the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA), endorsed by the Department of Education and funded by Pareto. Currently, there are almost 1150 schools registered with the programme. Eco-Schools is an international programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) www.fee-international.org that originally started in Europe in 1994. About 9 000 schools have earned green Eco-School flags in 50 countries around the world. Over 30 000 schools are registered with the programme, globally with approximately 9 million students and 628 000 teachers involved!
