Thank you very much for the invitation but, sadly, I will be unable to attend. Please pass on my best regards to all the lads from our year and I trust that we will receive contact details of those that attend and, like me, reply to you. You will note my business address below which is the same as my home address with the e-mail address being allanmac4@bigpond.com
It would be preferable if you would pass Old Boys correspondence to my business e-mail.
To fill in some gaps: I completed Michaelhouse in 1975 (after Post-matric), attended Univ of KZN at Pmburg and graduated with a BAgMngt in 1979. I married in 1981 while in the Army and went to the US in 1982 with my wife, Kellie, and studied my MSc in Animal Science at Colorado State Univ, finishing in 1984. Returning to RSA in 1984, I worked in Transkei for 4 years then relocated to Pmburg. I was transferred from RSA to Australia in 2004 by my company and ran their operation here until 2008 when I sold off their venture here and formed my own consultancy in the livestock industry.
My wife, a graduate in Disability Studies, works in her field in Adelaide. We have two sons who are now 26 and 24, the older having married in 2009 and a Psych graduate working in mental health in Adelaide. The younger is studying law in Brisbane. We live in the village of Aldgate in the Adelaide Hills about 16km out of the CBD of the city – not dissimilar to Hilton relative to Pmburg. Adelaide itself is a city of 1.2m, with lovely beaches and a great cricket Oval and is reminiscent of Durban in the 1970s in its layout and architecture, not to mention its pace and vibe.
We would love to hear from any of my contemporaries should they find themselves in our patch.
All the best for the Reunion – I am envious of you all!
Yours in fellowship
Allan
P.S. I am surprised that you have not organised a clay fight in bottom woods instead of a staid Golf Day!! I wonder how many would remember how to wield a Kleilat.
Yes, thank you for the invitation. It is good to be reminded of what is going on, even if I can't be there.
Regards,
Peter (Brooks)
I would love to be there to see some of the old boys and also get to see the changes in the school since I left, but unfortunately I have prior engagements at that time and shall not be able to attend.
Regards
Mike Househam.
Would love to but a bit far! All the best.

What a delight to get your email, I have attempted to make contact with former classmates in the past to no avail. I live in New Zealand so getting to a reunion this year will be pretty well impossible. I will be very keen to keep in the loop though, even look at some video conference/skype link-up.
Kind regards
Roderick (Turner)
My partner and I have been in NZ for the past couple of years (got out of the rat race in the UK), but have not yet decided where we want to be longer term, so we're heading back to the UK next week for a few months (where we still have our house) and then back to NZ for another few months! Picking up casual work and taking in trips to other places as well.
So busy with travel and life is good.
Regards.
Ian (Turner)
I am very sadly going to have to decline your invitation to attend your Founders Day Reunion Weekend, as my son and the whole of Hilton College are traveling up to JHB to play rugby against St Albans that same weekend. I had agreed long ago to host a function at my home and my son will have a bunch of his Durban based mates staying with us. So I unfortunately have responsibilities at home that weekend.
This is unfortunate as it is the only weekend in the whole year that the whole of Hilton travel away from school to play a sports fixture. So any other weekend would have been easy for me. I am sure that the reunion will be a huge success and I am very disappointed that I won’t be meeting up with so many of my friends from that time that I have not seen for over 33 years!
Good luck, I am sure with all your huge effort it will be a great success. Please send me pictures and a wrap-up of the weekend. I would really appreciate that.
Best regards
Clive Grinaker
Thank you for this email.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend, but would have loved to.
I live in Zambia with my wife and 3 children.
Have a great day.
Regards
Des Sharp.
I'm so sorry I can't attend the old boys event to be held in the very near future. For obvious reasons it’s a little too far from New Zealand.
Sadly I have not been back to see Clifton for 25+ years but I retain fond memories of my time there - 1971. It would be good to find out more of the old boys who attend the function and those who are still in regular contact with Clifton.
Kind regards

Thank you for your invitation, but I unfortunately find myself unable to attend.
All the best for the day, I hope it all goes extremely well.
Kindest regards
Duncan Scheel
Thanks for the email but I will not be able to make it. I have just come back from the UK and have now settled back into JHB which I am quite pleased about.
I will have to make a plan for next time. Have a super time.
Kind regards
Peter (Norris)
I was at Clifton for 6 years, a very long time. I am currently living in Australia so will be unable to attend.
Thank you for the invitation.
Kind regards.
Greyling (Park)
Unfortunately I am away at the end of May so am unable to join you guys which is disappointing as I am sure it will be fun and great to see all the guys again after so many years!
Please send my best wishes to the boys from 1983.
Best regards
Warwick (Marshall)
I must apologise as I will not be making the reunion. I am disappointed as I had many happy days at Clifton.
I tried to make it work but unfortunately I am busy over that time.
Best regards

Sorry I can’t make it, I will be in the UK.
Kind regards

I will not be making the reunion due to my responsibilities on the farm during the harvesting season. I have not been able to find somebody to cover for me on that particular weekend and therefore leave too much to risk.
Many thanks for all your efforts.
Miles (Hulett)
Thanks for the invite but at this late stage it will not be possible to attend. Please keep me on your data base for any future happenings.
I will be helping Stuart Quinn with the Clifton group later in the year in Tuli Game Reserve so if you are up for that we will meet then.
All the best
Sean Pattrick
Sorry I won’t be able to make it.
Please give my best to all who are there.
Regards
Andrew Mitchell
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend. I do get to keep up with a few of the happenings at Clifton still as my niece, Jodie Simmans, recently started there and is absolutely loving it, just as I did.
Regards
Murray Izzett
I will not be able to attend the founders’ day reunion. Please accept my apologies and enjoy the day.
Regards
Gary Fyvie
Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I was away in March and returned to a ton of emails which I skimmed through without the due diligence.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend any of the reunion events as I now live in London, and it is a long way to come for a reunion at relatively short notice. It is a shame as I have no idea what any of my classmates of 1984 are up to these days, and it would have been wonderful to catch up!
I hope that all of the events are a great success and that all involved have a thoroughly good time.
Kind regards
Patrick (Quayle)
Sorry, I am in the Cayman Islands working and will not be able to attend. Nicholas Slack passed away about two months ago after a long battle against cancer. He will be sorely missed and is survived by two sons, Mathew and Christopher.
In the last year of his life Nick and his best friend (my brother) Landen visited Clifton Nottingham Road to revisit the place and start of their friendship - the Bell. Nick and Landen first met at Clifton after having a scrap at the Bell during break time after which they were inseparable.

Sorry about no response. Had a baby last week and my Hilton 20 year reunion the week before. Would love to come, but am not sure about the welcome I would get back at home if I did so. I am waiting to see how the things pan out with baby and give you late notice if I can make it. Have also discussed with Roger Fuller-Good, Gordon McKenzie and James Mackintosh. All seem keen to come. Will have to phone Nick (Isabelle) and let him know as I don’t think he has ever read his email. Reception in Melmoth is non-existent and the only time he leaves Melmoth is to go fishing at Cape Vidal.
Thanks for the invite.
Doug (Isabelle)
I was trying to see if I could rearrange my diary to accommodate but unfortunately I must decline. Many thanks for making contact, please keep me on the mailing list and I will be sure to try and attend future events. Please would you be so kind as to extend my apologies to the rest of the old boys at the event.
Good luck.
Kind regards
Shaun Phillpott
Alas I will not be able to attend the reunion day

I am devastated Ed (Bryant) cannot come. We had the best fist fight in the top dorm after supper one night. I thought I gave a good account of myself, but probably a draw at the end of the day. His nickname was Cody. Good chap and someone I would have loved to catch up with. James Hatfield was a legend at Clifton, a hugely popular chap, everyone loved him! Adrian (Webster) I have seen from time to time, I guess he has other engagements.
I will be there in one way or another: will confirm via the site.
Kind Regards
Geoff Perkins
As per Carl’s email below, I will not be able to make it either. Thanks for your time in trying to round up the troops.
Please keep me in the loop going forward.
Thanks in advance
Dave Hamilton-Brown
Very nice to see some old names of the Clifton guys on the email list - howzit to all of you!
Would really like to make it but unfortunately am now based in Shanghai and won't be able to get back for this - but please feel free to keep me posted as will definitely try to make the 35 year reunion at least!
To any of the old guys - if you pass through China at any stage drop me a line would be great to catch up for a beer.
Cheers
Carl (Preller)
Unfortunately I have events on that weekend and won’t be able to attend. Thank you.
Regards
Warren Valentine
Unfortunately I will not be able to join the lads for the reunion. Please offer my apologies. Hopefully I will be able to catch up at another time.
Very best regards
Stephen (Norris)
Thank you for the invite. I am unfortunately unable to make it.
Many thanks
Rob Mitchell-Innes
I will not be able to make it, sorry.

Hello everyone – good to see some familiar names.
Hi Carl – please send me Craig and John’s emails when you get them.
I am based in Sydney, so like Carl will struggle to make it.
I will be back in Durban mid-June so if anyone is around for the soccer let me know.
Mark (Mulder)
